Frequently Asked Questions

  • Henna is a naturally safe dye produced from the powdered form of the leaves of the Lawsonia Inermis tree, binding to keratin in skin and hair. leaving an orangey-brown temporary stain. Typically, essential oils are mixed in to enhance the dye process, as well as lemon juice which acts as a preservative and sometimes water.

  • Henna typically lasts 10-12 days WITH proper after care. One of the most important factors in achieve a dark, long-lasting stain is how long you leave the henna paste on before removal. Other factors that may affect stain potential are placement (henna stains the darkest on the hands and feet), as well as lifestyle.

  • I recommend leaving the henna paste on for at least 6 hours. If you can leave henna on longer, you have a greater potential for a dark, lasting henna stain. The longer you can leave it on the better!

  • No! Please avoid all contact with soap, water, sweat and other liquids for at least 48 to 72 hours after your session. To remove henna. I recommend using oil and a blunt tip (the back of a butterknife, card, floss, etc.) to gently scrape off the henna paste. Use more oil and a towel as needed.

  • I would highly suggest that you don’t use baby oil to take off your henna paste. Baby oil is a mineral oil, and it actually helps henna fade faster rather than promoting a strong henna stain. It is also known to clog pores and is not ideal for those with sensitive or acne prone skin.

  • I recommend coconut oil, olive oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, mustard oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, etc. It is recommended that you use oils like those listed above because they are created all natural, organic, and pure, meaning they are less likely to strip the skin/ hair of its natural oils which could lead to dryness or breakage.

  • When washing hands, dishes etc., showering or bathing, it is important to protect your stain from fading due to contact with water, as it can interfere with dye release and overall stain potential. I recommend using Vaseline or Aquafor over your henna stain before contact with water, which act as a protective barrier over your stain. When Vaseline or Aquafor are not available, you may also use ChapStick to protect your henna stain.
